Mars being “wet” is all the rage, but the moon is
always a joy to behold like in this snapshot Tuesday night. If Mars evokes
images of war in Roman mythology, the Moon stands accused of being a harbinger
of lunacy among people.
Filipinos call the moon “buwan” which is just a
“g” short of “buwang” or one who has gone crazy (sira ulo, may sapak, maluwag
ang turnilyo, etc.,etc.) Lunacy itself has “Luna” – the Roman personification
of the moon – as its root word.
Science postulates that our brain being 80 percent
water, it is as equally affected by the moon’s varying distances to the earth
as the moon causing ocean low or high tides. So beware the full moon,
werewolves and lunatics abound!
Unconvinced? Go ask Beethoven with his maddeningly
beautiful Moonlight Sonata and Claude Debussy with his hypnotic Claire de Lune.
But wait! Do you have a coin to pay Charon to ferry you across the River Styx?
