The University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad may boycott next year’s UAAP
Cheerleading Competition unless it gets answers for several scoring points it
raised in protesting the 2015 cheer dance result won by National University.
In an Oct. 5, 2015
protest letter, the UP Pep Squad noted several instances in which NU violated
UAAP cheerleading rules on safety that should have meted it heavy scoring
deductions.
GMA News reported that
UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan endorsed the protest letter to the UAAP
Cheerdance Committee which promptly dismissed it without answering UP’s
questions point by point.
"I am endorsing the
letter, convinced that unless all these questions are answered, the future of
cheerdance as a sport, and UAAP as a university sports federation, will remain
under a cloud of doubt," Tan wrote.
