MANILA, Philippines
– Newly appointed Customs Commissioner Bert Lina said today that a revamp
within the Bureau of Customs (BOC) will proceed, stressing that he has a free
hand in effecting the needed reforms.
Lina appealed to
those who would be affected by the revamp not to take the changes “negatively,”
reported ABS-CBN.
“I really have a
free hand to revamp. That is the role of the commissioner. We are effecting
changes so await the next chapters,” said Lina in Filipino. “The revamp will be
continuing.”
Lina
was appointed BOC chief last week following the resignation of erstwhile
commissioner John Philip Sevilla.
As
Customs head, Lina will have the difficult task of increasing its revenues and
in weeding out rogue customs officials and personnel who are on the take from
smugglers. -end-
