The British police has sent
shockwaves with a report that politicians, celebrities and music makers are
among the more than 1,400 suspects investigated over child sex abuses, reported
CNN.
The rampant allegation of
child sex abuse was touched off by an ITV documentary that the late radio disc
jockey and TV star Jimmy Savile was a serial sex offender.
The UK police’s Operation
Hydrant launched last summer said that child sex abuse has increased by 71
percent in the last three years since the ITV report in 2012.
Operation Hydrant listed a
total of 1,433 suspects, including 216 already dead, 666 committed to
institutions, and 261 classified as “people of public prominence.”
The 261 were
broken down as follows: 76 local and national politicians; 43 people
from the music industry; and seven sports personalities.
"These figures
are stark. They indicate the scale of child abuse police are dealing with,”
Chief Constable Simon Bailey said. -end-
