The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and the Philippine
College of Surgeons (PCS) recently signed an agreement which will allow PRC to
tap the expertise of PCS member in case a major earthquake hits the
country.
"We have to be prepared because we don’t know
when a quake will strike. If such disasters happen, hospitals will be unable to
take in all the victims. Hospitals may even be damaged and rendered
non-operational. There has to be an adequate number of doctors and medical
personnel deployed to attend the victims and those injured,” PRC chairman
Richard J. Gordon said.
The agreement, signed by Gordon and PCS president Dr.
Arturo Mendoza Jr., will enable both parties to provide training for their
personnel and volunteers. -end-
