Traffic was heavy on EDSA on Monday morning even as personnel
from the Philippine National Police's Highway Patrol Group (HPG) were deployed
on Metro Manila's main thoroughfare.
Traffic
from EDSA-Trinoma area as of 8:30 a.m. all the way to EDSA-Santolan was heavy.
The
traffic buildup in these areas was caused by provincial buses turning left from
the southbound lane of EDSA to P. Tuazon. As part of a new traffic scheme on
EDSA, provincial buses that have terminals in Cubao and Kamuning areas should
take the P. Tuazon to C5 Road route from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Meanwhile,
traffic was also heavy on the northbound and southbound lanes of EDSA-Boni as
of 8 a.m.
The
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also reported
moderate
to heavy traffic in several areas on EDSA as of 8:11 a.m.
Motorists
were expecting an improved traffic situation on EDSA with the start of the HPG
men's deployment.
PNP
spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor has asked the public to give the
HPG a chance to provide a solution to the perennial traffic problem on EDSA.
HPG
spokesperson Superintendent Oliver Tanseco had said that they will come up with
improved measures based on their observation during the first days of their
men's deployment in EDSA. –End-
