Gilas blasts India, 99-65






Gilas Pilipinas cut down a much taller India five, 99-65, to close out its second round campaign with a 4-1 win-loss card in the 2015 FIBA Asia Cup Championships in Hunan, China.

Gilas banked on a huge 34-15 run in the fourth quarter to post the rousing follow-up win to its   big victory over defending champion Iran on Monday.

The Filipinos go into the knockout quarterfinal round as the top seed from Group E.

Mark Pingris torched India with eight points in the third quarter where the Filipinos outscored and outhustled their rivals to take a 15-point spread into the fourth quarter, 65-50.

The Filipinos were never threatened from there with India coming closest at 58-66 early in the fourth after which the Filipinos came up with a killer finish.

Gilas trailed by one point, 16-17, at the end of the first quarter on back-to-back baskets by Ranidel Ocampo.

It was also Ocampo who hit a three-pointer to close out scoring in the second half that gave Gilas a 42-36 spread.

Terrence Romeo cashed in on three foul throws midway of the second quarter and followed those up with a triple for a 32-27 Philippine lead.
