Beware traffic hotheads, road rage
will have no more place along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) with the
PNP’s Highway Patrol Group deploying 96 armed policemen as lead operatives in
decongesting traffic.
The HPG policemen will have their
pistols with them following Malacañang’s order to the Metro Manila Development
Authority (MMDA) to relinquish the lead role to the HPG in enforcing traffic
rules on EDSA.
HPG spokesperson Superintendent
Oliver Tanseco said the 96 policemen will also have anti-crime responsibilities
aside from managing traffic, GMA News reported.
Tanseco allayed fears on the
deployment of the armed traffic policemen in six "chokepoints" along
EDSA, as follows: Balintawak, Cubao, Ortigas, Shaw Boulevard, Guadalupe and
Taft Avenue.
Tanseco said that the HPG will
immediately act on complaints against its personnel even coming from anonymous
complainants. He added though that HPG personnel are professional policemen,
being college graduates. –End-
