CEBU -- About 200 of the more than
3,800 police officers tasked to secure the various APEC meetings here have been
treated by doctors for sore eyes and heat exhaustion, among other ailments.
Dr. Wyben Briones, founding
president of the All-terrain Medical Relief Organization, said the police
personnel treated were billeted at the Cebu International Convention Center in
Mandaue City.
In a report, SunStar Cebu said that
one of the high-level meetings that ended on Monday focused on the improvement
of health care systems in all member-countries in the Asia-Pacific region,
especially those dealing with HIV/AIDS and mental disorders.
Aside from the policemen, at least
183 APEC delegates and personnel have also been treated for minor ailments
since August 19.
About 1,429 delegates have arrived
in Cebu, according to Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, spokesperson for site
security task group Cebu. –End-
