Two Mindanao-based broadcasters have
haled before the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) the owner of the
radio station from where they were sacked for eating lechon (roasted pork) sent
by a city mayor.
The Mindanao Gold Star Daily
reported that the broadcasters were fired for “misbehavior” after allegedly
being berated by the radio station’s owner as being “patay-gutom” for partaking
of the roasted pig that was intended for the owners of the radio station and
not its employees.
The two broadcasters have filed
illegal dismissal charges against their erstwhile boss, with the NLRC regional
office 10 scheduling an “amicable settlement” meeting between the two parties
on Sept. 14.
The broadcasters said the man who
delivered the lechon made it very clear that the lechon was for the radio
station staff who had covered a town fiesta.
The Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC)
and the local chapter of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines
(NUJP) said the reason for the dismissal was “unacceptable.” –End-
