Irate motorists and commuters
lambasted Tuesday night the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for
completely abdicating its responsibility to help in managing traffic and
clearing EDSA of sidewalk vendors.
With traffic in many parts of EDSA
going into a standstill because of a heavy downpour, many motorists and
commuters used social media to slam the MMDA for not providing support to the
PNP Highway Patrol Group.
“The PNP-HPG can only do so much.
The MMDA cannot act like Pontius Pilate in washing its hands of the EDSA mess
that is of its own doing,” said Alee, a call center agent, on FB.
Rita, a resident of Fairview in
Quezon City, noted with dismay that right across the MMDA main office in
Mandaluyong, MMDA personnel did not lift a finger in sweeping aside sidewalk
vendors in front of the Guadalupe commercial center.
“MMDA is really inutile. The HPG
forced people into the sidewalks, but there were no sidewalks as every inch of
them were occupied by vendors,” said Rita.
Jeff, a manager of a business
process outsourcing firm based in the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, noted
that many MMDA personnel presumably replaced by HPG troopers from their posts
in EDSA, are being seen in clusters in Metro streets.
“These MMDAs do nothing. They mill
in packs along streets in Makati, Manila and Taguig. We pay them with our taxes
to engage in small talk,” he said. –End-
